Forest management
From soil preparation and planting to young stand management and harvesting, the work is carried out by our own group companies. We use modern machinery and proven forestry methods, and manage forests sustainably for the long term.

Forest management from start to finish
Forest management begins long before harvesting and continues after it. Soil preparation, planting, young stand tending, thinning and regeneration felling are all part of the forest growth cycle. We carry out the work through our own group companies, keeping the full process in our own hands.
-
Soil preparation
The site is prepared for planting to give the new forest the best possible start.
-
Planting
After harvesting, we regenerate the forest with species suited to the site.
-
Young stand tending
We tend young stands so that healthy, well-positioned trees have the space to grow.
-
Thinning
Thinning gives the strongest trees more room to grow and guides the further development of the stand.
-
Regeneration felling
When the forest reaches maturity, regeneration felling begins the next growth cycle. Soil preparation and forest regeneration follow.
The work is carried out by BaltWood, AT Transwood, Transwood Tehnika and MP & Puitmeister. The group employs 75 people.
Modern machinery, less impact
We choose machinery and working methods to suit the site, soil conditions and the work at hand. The aim is simple: do the necessary work precisely while keeping the impact on the forest and soil as low as possible.
The same principle applies to forest regeneration and young stand management. The right species, work carried out at the right time and well-planned forestry methods give the forest better conditions to grow and help keep it in good condition over the long term.

PEFC and FSC: what they mean for a seller
BaltWood holds PEFC forest management certification and FSC Chain of Custody certification. For the seller, this means a controlled and traceable process, with forest management and the movement of timber carried out according to recognised standards.
PEFC forest management certificate
PEFC certification covers 100% of the forest land we manage. It sets requirements for forest regeneration, the protection of species and habitats, water protection and occupational safety, with compliance regularly audited by an independent body.
FSC chain of custody certification
FSC chain of custody certification covers the movement of timber through the supply chain, from origin to destination, and ensures that certified material is identified and kept separate from non-certified material.
More than 5,000 hectares of land improvement
We have completed land improvement projects on more than 5,000 hectares. Well-functioning drainage keeps land usable, improves growing conditions and reduces the risks caused by excess water in both forests and farmland.
Land improvement is not a one-off job. Drainage systems require maintenance and planned upkeep to preserve the condition and long-term value of the land.

Responsibility does not end at the forest edge
BaltWood is the largest landowner in Jõgeva County and one of the ten largest landowners in Estonia. That brings responsibility not only for the forest and the land, but also for the region and the people who live there. We support initiatives where the work is real and the impact is visible.
